Off the north side of the High Street, the buildings are encroachments on the market place; Bletchingley had been a borough by the 13th century. The back lane alongside the church follows the original north edge of the market place. Bletchingley also had a castle, which was destroyed in 1264, and from 1285 to 1832 it had MPs. The church is a good one - the tower is basically Norman. The shop on the left is now an antique lighting shop, while the garage has gone, to be replaced by a clothes shop.
